biography
Mark was born in January 1986 in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. At only a few days old his parents took him to his first Salvation Army meeting. It was here that his musical interests would first take form.
Mark's love for music started at the age of seven, when he was given his first musical instrument to learn, a cornet. Mark is now playing solo cornet in the Nuneaton Salvation Army Band under the band master, Andrew R Mackereth, a key figure in Mark’s influences and musical training. Mark had his first piece of music performed publicly by Nuneaton Salvation Army Band in 2002 called ‘My Saviour, Jesus’.
In 2002 Mark left secondary school after achieving an A in his Music GCSE and began his A level studies of Music and Music Technology at the North Warwickshire and Hinckley college in Nuneaton. It was here that Mark joined the college’s Concert Band under Steven Cooper. It was Steven who commissioned Mark to write an arrangement of tunes from the hit musical ‘Grease’ and was performed by the Concert Band at the Bedworth Civic Hall in 2003.
Mark furthered his musical training by attending the Birmingham Conservatoire from 2004 to 2008 and studied composition under Martin Riley.
After completing his degree in composition, Mark now lives back at home in Nuneaton. Now he regularly arranges music for productions such as the Nuneaton District Gang Show, which is held at the end of February each year, at the Bedworth Civic Hall and also composes music within the Salvation Army.
Mark is currently working on some exciting and new projects.
